5 Amazing Ways to Modernize your Bathroom

Nobody wants to have an ugly, old-looking bathroom. What do you do if you have one, though? How do you get rid of it?

Unfortunately, too many bathrooms are still stuck in the past. Even worse, a lot of their owners don’t know how to bring them into the 21st century.

The good news is that there are many different ways to remodel a bathroom. We’ll talk more about some modern bathroom ideas in the paragraphs below.

1. Change the Floors

One of many modern bathroom ideas out there is to change the bathroom floors. Keep in mind, we’re not suggesting you break the bank here. If you have the money and want new flooring, or even a total bathroom remodel, go ahead, but it’s not vital.

If you have a wooden floor, you could always repaint it to look fresh. When it comes to painting, the best option is latex-based. Oil and solvent are higher-quality, but they have been banned in several states due to environmental and health concerns.

Before starting any new project with the floors, it’s best to clean them. Sometimes, a clean floor can even be enough. A clean and bright tile floor can breathe new life into an old room.

2. Lights and Light Fixtures

It’s possible that boring or outdated lights and light fixtures might be making your home look old. One possible option is to replace the light fixtures, but that can be expensive.

There’s no limit to the number of ways you can revitalize light fixtures. Much like with floors, a can of paint may be all you need. You could also add a drum shade or a few LED bulbs to add some change.

You could try using colored LED lights. This may sound odd, and a bit extreme, but it’ll change things up a lot.

3. Add Some Shelves

It’s amazing what a few glass shelves can do for storage. Plus, a reorganized bathroom may look very different, and make the room seem brand new.

When it comes to glass shelving, you may want to stick with pre-cut glass or hire a professional. The last thing anybody wants is to get injured while working on their house.

For those who want to forego the glass issue entirely, there are other options. One low-cost option, even lower than glass, is acrylic. Often called plexiglass, which is technically a brand name, acrylic is safer than glass.

This has to do with the way acrylic behaves when it gets broken. Glass tends to shatter into fragments with sharper edges. Acrylic tends to break into pieces with far duller edges.

Another popular option is polycarbonate. This stuff is expensive but worth it.

Polycarbonate has a reputation for lasting quite a while before showing any signs of fading or aging. It’s also a lot safer than glass because glass breaks. Polycarbonate, on the other hand, might break if you drove a tank over it.

Once you’ve chosen your material, all that’s left to do is get some brackets and screws and attach it to the wall.

4. The Shower

The average American spends 8.2 minutes in the shower each day. This should be reason enough to switch out the shower curtain every once in a while.

The great thing about shower curtains is that there’s no real limit to what you can put on one. There are plenty of designs and patterns out there, and you can even come up with some ideas of your own.

You might want to forego the curtains entirely and opt for a simple glass door. Unless it’s just you and your significant other or you have more than one bathroom, don’t go with a transparent one.

It all depends on your personality and preferences.

That being said, you don’t have to replace the shower curtain to change up the look of your shower. Maybe you want to replace a straight shower curtain rod with a curved one.

Perhaps you want to get rid of the metallic look and go with something black. Both are options, and the possibilities don’t stop there.

You could also try switching up the showerhead. Given the sheer variety of showerhead designs out there, it should be no problem finding one to switch up your bathroom.

5. Add a Mirror

Every day, we get dressed and ready for our jobs, classes, and lives. Most of us brush our teeth, comb our hair, shave, put on makeup or some combination of those activities.

This means that we spend a lot of time in front of a mirror. For this reason, a new mirror can also add something to the bathroom as a whole.

However, it’s also important to note that the mirror itself is always the same. It’s the accents and decorations around the mirror that cause real change.

As with everything else, human ingenuity has shone through here and come up with plenty of DIY ideas for making a unique and captivating bathroom mirror. You can use anything from tiles to seashells to add personality to your mirror.
