Projects to Get Done Before Winter

Projects to Get Done Before Winter

It’s time to stop denying the inevitable. Our Wisconsin winter is coming, and it’s bringing all the cold, snow, and ice that does a number on our homes (and our comfort levels-brrrrr!). The clock is ticking until our first snow. Get these projects done so you, and your home, can make it through this winter without freezing (or damage from freezing!).

Windows

Your windows are one of your home’s first lines of defense against the cold. If you feel a draft from your old windows, or have abnormally high energy bills from broken or leaky windows, new windows can address both those issues.

Contact a contractor to give you new windows and a warmer winter indoors.

Insulation

Over time the insulation in your attic can break down, leaving your home far less energy efficient. Make your home more comfortable, keep energy bills down, and prevent ice dams by adding insulation to your attic. If you can’t or don’t know if it’s needed, schedule an appointment with a contractor to evaluate your attic and add all the insulation you need to make it through winter.

Roof

A leaky roof is a recipe for disaster this winter, so it’s best to make repairs and replace any shingles before the water. Before winter strikes, do a full examination of your roof to determine if there is any warped or damaged shingles that need to be repaired. If there is any water damage in your home, get in touch with a contractor who can make your home look like it never happened—and prevent any mold or mildew from growing.

Gutters

Ice dams occur when water melts on your warm roof and freezes on your gutters or roof. Water builds up behind the ice dam, potentially leaking into your home and causing significant damage. To find out if you need gutter repair or replacement, or to get your cutters cleaned, bring in a pro to make sure your home is ready for winter (even if you’re not!).
