4 Steps to a New Laundry Room
A laundry room may not be the most glamorous room, but itís a room thatís always needed---and that you spend a lot of time in. Hereís a step-by-step guide to a new laundry room thatís pleasant to do the laundry in (or at least that makes you not mind doing it).
Determine the location of the new laundry room.
For some, the location of the new laundry room is in the exact same space as the last laundry room. However, for some homeowners, moving the laundry room makes sense, such as moving the laundry to the main floor where itís easier to access. One of our clients even had us move the laundry room to a closet. If you want a bigger laundry room, moving the laundry room to the basement can give you more space.
Decide on a budget.
A budget can dictate the location and the scope of the project, though there are options for those with a small budget. Even with a low budget, it is possible to complete an unfinished laundry room with organization and adequate lighting. For a more substantial budget, the laundry room can be finished with cabinets, lighting, flooring, and other finishing touches.
Think about laundry room needs.

Before choosing the fixtures and countertops, decide what is needed in the laundry room. If you have pets, an area for washing may be a helpful addition. For a busy household, a sink can be invaluable when rinsing out dirty clothes. If the laundry room is part of a mudroom, hooks and cabinets can give your household the organization it needs. Donít hesitate to ask a contractor for suggestions; an experienced contractor can recommend storage and laundry room additions that they have seen work in other homes.
Hire a contractor.
Once you have an idea of what you want in your laundry room, contact a contractor to get a quote for the final product. Be wary of contractors who ask for large down payments or do not have proof of experience. Instead, ask the contractor these questions. Once you have hired the contractor, itís time to look forward to a new laundry room you can enjoy doing all those loads of laundry in.
